Methodology — UK Transport & Travel Finder

The problem

Commuters, businesses, local authorities and researchers lose time finding the right open transport & travel datasets on data.gov.uk (timetables, traffic, accessibility, EV charging, air quality). The data exists but is scattered with no plain-language route to the relevant datasets.

What this tool does

• Queries the open, no-auth data.gov.uk CKAN Search API for datasets matching a keyword.
• Deterministically classifies each result into a sector bucket (keyword match — no machine learning).
• Links to the official publisher page.

Data source & honesty

Results are fetched live from the CKAN API at request time. If unavailable, the tool shows an honest 'source unavailable' message — it never fabricates results. Economic impact is unquantified until measured.
